After a two-week jury trial, Annamalai Annamalai, also known as Dr. Commander Selvam and Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar, the former leader of the now-defunct Hindu Temple of Georgia, was convicted in federal court in the Northern District of Georgia Aug. 25 on 34 felony counts.

“This defendant traded on his perceived religious authority and spiritual powers to cheat the faithful who believed in him,” said U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates in a statement. “The jury saw through his deception, and he is being held accountable for his fraud.”…
