Accident Rips Holidays for 5 Aggie Students

HOUSTON: Five Texas A&M students, Pranan Kannan, 22; Akshay Jain, 22; Chiranjibi Boere, 23; Shachit Iyer, 23; and Kishan Bajaj, 24, are still in the hospital after their car collided head-on with a truck in Montgomery County on Sunday night.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the students were driving back to College Station from a trip to New Orleans when a pickup truck from the opposite direction crossed the center line and entered their lane. The students and the truck driver, identified as Roman Polawco, a resident of Cleveland, Texas, were immediately rushed to area hospitals.

All five students are international students from India, majoring in engineering at the university.

Investigators are still looking into what caused Polawco’s vehicle to cross out of its lane.

Authorities say that neither alcohol nor speeding were believed to have been factors.
