HOUSTON: With early voting underway, Commissioner Rodney Ellis joined The Breakfast Klub Cares, Inanimate Nature Studios and the People For the American Way Foundation on Sunday, October 25 to unveil four murals celebrating civic participation, people-powered change and accountable leadership.

Their unveiling was part of a community celebration and Inanimate Nature studio opening featuring local artists, community leaders and residents. The event also featured a car meet, open studios, art and wellness activities, dance and live music.

“Art belongs to everybody,” saidHarris County Pct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis “You shouldn’t have to buy a ticket or live in a wealthy neighborhood to experience work that tells our stories, honors our history and makes us think about the future we want. These murals bring that work into public spaces and remind us that our voices matter. Early voting is underway through October 30. If you haven’t voted yet, make a plan and vote.”

“The Breakfast Klub has always been a place where people come together,” said Marcus Davis, entrepreneur and chief steward of The Breakfast Klub.”We’re proud to welcome neighbors to celebrate local artists, explore the new studio and experience work that reflects the power we all have to shape our communities.”

“All across the country, we do this work. Why did we do it here?” asked Svante Myrick, president of the People For the American Way Foundation. “Because we believe that Houston is the most important city in Texas and Texas is the most important state in the country right now.”

Since 2022, the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis has supported nearly 80 murals across Harris County. The office’s public art initiatives expand access to culturally relevant art, particularly in historically underinvested communities, and honor the people and movements that have advanced justice and equality.

The four murals feature work designed by Shepard Fairey, Vincent Valdez and Beverly McIver and painted by Houston artists David Maldonado, PREMO and Alex Arzú. Valdez, a 2026 MacArthur Fellow whose work reflects Latino experiences and contemporary U.S. history, designed the mural “Vote,” painted by PREMO.
